RELATED PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Garfield “Home Again” Project Location: 16th St. to 7th St., I-10 to Van Buren, Phoenix, AZ Client: Neighborhood Housing Services of Phoenix The development of an affordable infill housing program for this downtown neighborhood. Services included participation in the Affordable Housing Institute presented by ASU Downtown, team preparation of the development proposal, securing grants and funding from City, State and Federal agencies including CDBG, State Housing Trust Fund and the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. The residential plans have been adapted for in-fill use by the City of Phoenix In-Fill Department and have been in several metropolitan neighborhoods.
Santa Fe Highlands Resort Location: Silver Lake, Show Low, AZ Client: The Shelly Group Schematic design, master planning and design development of a resort/conference facility in Northern Arizona. The resort building project included resort sales offices, restaurant and banquet facilities, natatorium, conference rooms, 22-room hotel with 36-room expansion, and other resort amenities. Public spaces approximately 30,000 square feet.
University Park Expansion Location: 7th Ave. to 19th Ave., Van Buren to Grand, Phoenix, AZ Client: Neighborhood Housing Services of Phoenix Consulting Architect to this not-for-profit housing agency assisting in the feasibility studies for this downtown neighborhood. Reviewed and revised all NHS standard contract documents, made recommendations for improvement to specifications; participated in establishing programming goals, architectural and planning strategies for the neighborhood; prepared examples of architectural requirements and construction estimates (for individual residences and for the entire neighborhood) resulting from programming needs study.
Capitol Mall Neighborhood Location: 7th St. to 15th Ave, Van Buren to RR, Phoenix, AZ Client: Capitol Mall Association Analysis of the neighborhood including cost estimates, programming and stabilization strategies, presentations and hearings to generate community and city support for reinvestment in the CMA neighborhood. After support garnered, Cook Associates was contracted to assist in review bid documents and program requirements, construction administration, and color coordination. CMA and Cook Associates were awarded the Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation on the first home completed.
Monroe Project Location: 12th Ave and W. Monroe, Phoenix, AZ Client: Capitol Mall Association The Monroe Project is under development and includes full services to design and construct a nine-unit housing project. The architecturally compatible two-story units in downtown Phoenix are three-bedrooms with two baths. The affordable units are designed to be usable in other neighborhoods as scattered site infill housing. This small but dense new urbanism infill project is being funded through several programs in order to meet the complex redevelopment strategy established by the CMA board. Included are housing funds through Neighborhood Services Department, land purchase through condemnation proceedings, first time buyers Home Funds for down payments and other soft seconds, and funding for the construction documents from State sources.
OTHER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS
Beverly Project Location: Beverly Rd. & 1st Ave. Client: Phoenix ACORN 40-unit subdivision of affordable housing. Homes used are standard plans (Originally designed by Cook Associates Architects) owned by City of Phoenix. Services include site planning and coordination, zoning variances, preparing Site Planning submittals and Landscape design. No construction documents or construction administration other than Landscape design. Completed January 2006.
CPLC—Chicanos Por La Causa Cardenas Villas @ Yanche Subdivision—Phoenix, AZ Location: 36th St and Southern Client: Chicanos Por La Causa 46-unit subdivision of affordable housing units. The design of the homes were developed with ASU Stardust Center for Affordable Housing and the Family. As a new prototype for CPLC, these units incorporated substantial energy and environmental ideas. Major construction elements use Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) to increase energy efficiency. Services include site planning coordination with ASU in preparing Site Planning submittals, and preparing unit construction documents. Under construction with anticipated completion of June 2008.
NHSP—Neighborhood Housing Services of Phoenix Villas Rosa Linda Subdivision—Phoenix, AZ Location: 12th Street and Baseline Client: Neighborhood Housing Services of Phoenix 65-unit subdivision of affordable housing units. The design of the homes used were developed with ASU Stardust Center for Affordable Housing and the Family. The complex site development issues included the historic Sotello Heard Cemetery, an archeological site, irrigation canal channeling, and coordination with Salvation Army’s new campus development plans. Services include site planning coordination with ASU and the Civil Engineer, zoning variances, assisting ASU in preparing Site Planning submittals, and preparing unit construction documents. Anticipated completion of December 2008. |
